From January 6 - 8, 2012, the first Andean Youth Encounter (AYE12) was held in Quito, where about 700 young Christians participated from Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Rainbow-NAC's information booth was visited with much interest. Young people as well as ministers came to learn about the activities and objectives of Rainbow-NAC, and many discussions were generated based on a mutual respect and desire to understand those who are different.
Additionally, there were presentations during two workshops about sexual diversity which were attended by approximately 200 members who followed the discussions closely. At the end of each was a time for questions, answers, and comments.
In August, 2011, when the District Apostle Leonard R. Kolb met with representatives of Rainbow-NAC in Philadelphia, USA, they discussed the possibility of a presence at the AYE12 in order to generate greater acceptance and integration of gay, lesbian, bi-, and transsexual Christians within the Church. We thank District Apostle Kolb for allowing our presence, the experience of which far surpassed our expectations.
