First prayer for blessing in Berlin-Brandenburg

In August 2014, a male couple from Berlin exchanged vows and received a prayer for blessing from Apostle Hans-Jürgen Berndt.

From the congregation of Berlin Humboldt-Hain, Martin and his fiancé legalized their partnership in mid August, 2014. The family and friends of the couple were invited to a lake near Berlin for the celebration. After the registrar had processed the civil union of the two, Apostle Hans-Jürgen Berndt officiated at the prayer for blessing for the couple. Martin and his partner are the first same-sex couple in the Berlin/Brandenburg District of the New Apostolic Church to receive a prayer for blessing for their future together.

"In addition to the civil ceremony, it was important for me to ask for God's blessing," Martin said. His Rector, Klaus-Peter Waschke, advocated for the fiancés. He couldn't perform the prayer for blessing himself because he was on vacation with his family at the time. Apostle Berndt ultimately agreed to officiate at the prayer for blessing for the two.

For the couple and their guests, the Apostle chose a text from Psalm 91: 4. "He shall cover you with his feathers, and under His wings, you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler."

The Apostle focused on the security that people can experience with God, so that they may also share this security with others. At the conclusion, he read the 23rd Psalm and prayed for God´s blessing on their union.
